About Us

Hi! My name is Carletta and I am the creator and editor of Successful Homemaking. I am wife of 10 years to my husband James, and mom of 3 children ages 8, 5 and 2. Here's some information about my journey as a homemaker.

Overjoyed and Overwhelmed

As the only child of a single, working mother, I didn't spend my childhood learning to care for a family and a home.

When I got married and had my first child, I was overjoyed to have the opportunity to become a wife and mother. I had a wonderful husband, an adorable baby and a beautiful home. I was living out my mother's dream!

However, after a few months alone with a crying baby, a sink overflowing with dirty dishes and a mountain of laundry, my joy turned into frustration.

I wanted to cook meals my husband would rush home for, but night after night, we ended up eating take out. I wanted to have a clean and organized home, but I didn't know where to begin.

I asked friends for advice and searched the internet for homemaking tips, but the changes I made never seemed to stick. I felt like a failure, but after getting pregnant with my second child, I found the courage to try again.

Overcoming Obstacles - One Step at a Time

Instead of spending days in a cleaning frenzy (only to have the mess slowly rebuild itself), I decided to tackle one area at a time. Once I'd mastered one aspect of home management, I moved on to another. Step by step, I had the clean, organized home I'd always wanted. My husband was both amazed and proud.

I finally realized that taking care of my home and family was my top priority and I had to treat it like a job - an honorable job. I also learned routines and habits that made homemaking a joy. I started this website to share these strategies with you.

I built this website using Site Build It!, a company that walks you through the process of building a website and gives you all of the tools you need to succeed. SBI! even showed me how I turn my passion for helping others into an opportunity to earn income by placing ads on my site and sharing my favorite products with others.

This is the second website I have built with SBI!, and I'm having so much fun that my 8-year-old son decided to create a website of his own. Here is some additional information about how I built Successful Homemaking and its companion website, Successful Homeschooling.
